Unlike cinema, where the director is at the center, the television celebrates above all the author. However, the level of achievement has never been more exceptional on television than in recent years. Whether it's filmmakers trained by the series (Alan Taylor, lan Poul), actors wanting to go behind the camera (Khaty Bates on Six Feet Under or Steve Buscemi on The Sopranos) or big names in movies like David Fincher or Martin Scorsese, each of these chameleon directors immortalizes the words by the image. This series of 6 documentaries, devoted to directors, shows how the serial format led them to rethink their working methods and adapt to a medium in constant revolution.
With Alan Poul (Six Feet Under, Rome, The Newsroom), Jennifer Getzinger (Mad Men, Masters of Sex, The Big C), Rosemary Rodriguez (The Walking Dead, The Good Wife, Jessica Jones), Tim Van Patten (The Sopranos, The Pacific, Boardwalk Empire), Matthew Penn (Law & Order, Damages, Royal Pains), Alan Taylor (Homicide, Deadwood, Game of Thrones), Judd Apatow (Girls, Love), Vincenzo Natali (Hannibal, Westworld), Michel Gondry (Kidding), Michelle MacLaren (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Game of Thrones), Helen Hunt (Californication, This Is Us, Mad About You), Jennifer Morrison (Euphoria, Surface), Susanne Bier (The Night Manager, The Undoing, The First Lady), Marti Noxon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer), and Charlotte Brändström (Occupied, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power).
